California Adoption Services | Uplift Family Services

This service is available in the following region(s):

Finding a stable, loving home for every child in California is the goal of the Uplift Family Services adoption program. We believe that every child just needs a chance in order to become successful. To realize that goal, we partner with loving parents and families like you. We’re ecstatic you’re considering us to help you start or grow your family.

Our California adoption program helps find permanent homes for infants, children, and teens up to age 19 who are placed in foster care. There are no adoption fees for applicants wishing to adopt a youth in the foster care system. Families who adopt in this manner are also eligible to receive monthly adoption assistance payments and Medi-Cal benefits until the child turns 18.

We welcome adults over the age of 21 and families living in California of any ethnicity, race, religion, gender, gender identity or gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, or income level. Adoptive parents can be single, married, couples, or domestic partners.

Uplift Family Services has provided quality adoption services to children and families of Northern and Central California, along with other behavioral healthcare, for over 150 years. We offer relevant and comprehensive training and prompt, confidential services.

The Adoption Process at Uplift Family Services

We have helped many children and matched them with families for adoption, and we can assist you with this process, as well.  Our resource family recruiters will meet with you personally to discuss your preferences and options to adopt. Our online portal makes it easy for you to fill out an application in the convenience of your home, or if you prefer, our resource family recruiters can assist you in person.

The initial paperwork is an application that includes a criminal record statement, agreement forms, and policy and procedure forms. Once completed, a resource family recruiter will contact you to set up an informational interview, start a family and child profile, complete a background check, and, finally, a home study is conducted to evaluate your readiness to adopt.

A few of the things we’re assessing during the interview and home study include:

  • Is the home safe for adoption?
  • Do all your house family members share the same excitement and goals of expanding your family?
  • Is there adequate room for the new child?
    • This does not require a large home. We only want to ensure each child has a separate bed, closet space, and chest of drawers, among other requirements.
  • Although not required, do/does the applicant(s) have experience with children?
  • Other information pertaining to your background, family history, health, and financial information
  • Your ability and motivation to parent a child
