Uplift Family Services's staff of highly qualified child and adolescent psychiatrists specializes in treating children and adolescents with serious emotional disorders and their families. As members of the treatment team, our psychiatrists perform evaluations and prescribe medication.
The quality of Uplift Family Services services has made us a leader in behavioral and mental health issues for children and adolescents. Trained Uplift Family Services staff always focus on treating the whole person-providing individualized assessments and treatment plans that include the child's and family's sociocultural context.
Through pro-active, timely, multi-disciplinary treatment planning, which includes the child and parents or guardians, a child and family team works to provide structure, build linkages in families, involve the extended family in therapy, and always view children, adolescents and families within the context of the ethnic and cultural history. We continuously strive to build trusting relationships with families from various cultures and work collaboratively and creatively with key community systems and fellow providers.

Psychiatric Services specific to the Capital Region
Malia McCarthy, M.D., has completed her first year working in the Sacramento and Davis community-based programs. Dr. McCarthy, former Residency Training Director for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UC Davis School of Medicine, has been impressed by the capabilities of our staff, and staff have found her terrific to work with. Other psychiatrists in the Capital Region are Drs. Chris Eggleston, Robert Horst, Marigold Nabong and Mark Edelstein.
Mark Edelstein, M.D., (Uplift Family Services Medical Director, based in the Capital Region) has been asked to join the Care Coordination Workgroup, an advisory group to the Lucile Packard Foundation’s California Advocacy Network for Children with Special Health Care Needs. The upcoming transformation of healthcare systems is bound to present obstacles and opportunities to children requiring complex care, including specialty mental health services. The California Advocacy Network brings stakeholders together to identify mutual interests and advocate jointly for a high quality system of care.
The Capital Region is taking advantage of audiovisual technology to bring staff from Sacramento, Solano and Nevada County programs together for regular clinical consultation with Dr. Mark Edelstein. These meetings connect clinicians, family specialists and family partners with various levels of experience to problem-solve and learn from one another.
